'Treat game'

Mary Prior KC, presenting evidence, outlined the defendant's actions to the judicial body.

She said his victims were under-privileged children who were participating in a youth camp which he operated.

The defendant conducted a "candy game" with the youngsters, the prosecutor said, in which he would go into the children's bedrooms when they were settling down and ask them to eat sweets "rapidly".

She informed the proceedings the defendant had played this game with the boys "repeatedly", and children had earlier experienced illness the next day.

She explained Ruben had been able to explain this over a long period as the children being "overwrought by enjoyment", until his stepchild had suspicions in summer 2025.

The legal representative stated further: "Recently" his family member had worries about the situation, justifiably.

"They resolved" to examine in the individual's items."

The legal counsel said items including infant oil, petroleum jelly and syringes were found, and his stepchild notified the police about his worries.

She stated the defendant went on to conduct the "sweet game" with six boys that time - that Saturday - and they were everyone unwell the next day.

"Law enforcement" had not arrived by that point," she continued.

The regulatory agency, the police conduct office, earlier informed that it was reviewing Leicestershire Police's handling of the situation.

Mrs Prior said the youngsters were unable to walk properly due to their sickness, so Ruben's stepson contacted the police once more.

She explained the defendant then played the "sweet game" in a space of five children.
